A Little Bit of History

  • Studies show that Interior design could have started from as long ago as the Egyptian era. There have been Photos of the tomb artifacts and drawings on the wall. There was also findings of ancient Greek vase paintings and paintings on the walls and ceilings found in the Roman cities of Pompeii. Though in the Renascence there was more sightings of interior design and paintings than others. (2nd source)

The Arrangement and Balance of Furniture

  • Everyone has to have furniture but before buying furniture you have to make sure you plan out where to put and make sure it will fit in the spot. The best way of planning, is to measure to space of where it's going and how big the furniture will be. Also make sure to not have your furniture suffocating the whole room. If you do get a big couch or other type of furniture make sure you have a big enough room to put it in. You will also need to keep in mind the different shades according to the lighting. When you have two pieces of furniture and one of them is a lighter shade than the other, slide the lighter one closer to the wall making the color seem a darker shade. This will make both pieces match each other. If you only have one big window with dark color walls the best choice for a style of furniture is for it to be light colored because a dark colored piece of furniture in a dark room will only make the room look smaller and also more creepy. Pay attention the the type of fabric, leather will shine when light reflects to it. It also gets hot and sticky in the summer. (3nd source)

Decorative Accessories

  • There are many different types of styles of accessory options one can have in their home. It could vintage, themed, feminine, masculine, this could go on.

Accessories and Decorations can include can included…
* Wall papers
* Hanging art/Posters
* Clocks
* Table Pieces
* Pillows

  • When picking decor and accessories you have to make sure all of the decor matches with others in the same room. You can have different themes and styles in each room if you want. For each room and each style, you have to color coordinate and work with the the different sizes. If you pick your theme for a room and the theme was modern summer, your colors would most likely be using light and cheery colors like yellow. The worst thing to do is to have the same color but with different shades. If you pick a color make sure that they are all the same shade. When hanging decor, it is the same with furniture, you have to make sure it will fit in a certain spot and it isn't over powering the room with just that one piece of art. Over powering and suffocating a room can be really easy to do if you rush to slap all the decor on. You must make sure to distribute your decor evenly on each wall so it looks neat and nice.

Colors

  • When you have wall art or other hanging masterpieces it has to have color or a design. Color is a very important assessment when it comes to interior design. Color can change the mood and effect on your house. If you have a roomy house but not that much money to fill it, it's okay. You can make your decor or furniture fill in the space when using the right shading and colors. When you use warm, bright colors like yellow and light pink, it will increase the size of your object. When you use cool colors like blue and purple, this will do the opposite and decrease the size of your object. Both of the cool and warm colors will attract the same values when appearing on a contrasting ground. Contours and Outlines are emphasized by contrast rather than by any inherent characteristics of color. (p. 16) (2nd source)
